- Louis Latour Domaine de Valmoissine Pinot Noir 2018
The Domaine Valmoissine is located on the site of the ancient monastery and university of Valmoissine in the village of Aups close to the Verdon gorge. It is a high altitude site and provides plenty of sunshine with cooler temperatures. This helps to ensure the grapes ripen slowly on low yielding vines, avoiding jammy flavours or too much alcohol. The wine is fermented in open vats, aged between 10 to 12 months in stainless steel. The wine has ruby hues with garnet tints and has intense aromas of raspberry and wild savoury notes. On the palate, there are notes of blackcurrant, liquorice and mocha. This wine is harmonious with ripe silky tannins and balanced acidity. Best served with grilled red meat, cheese or red fruits.
- Louis Latour Grand Ardèche Chardonnay 2018
Louis Latour came to the Ardèche in 1979 attracted by its climate and the clay limestone soils that are perfect for the Chardonnay vine. The consistent climate and abundant sunshine perfectly ripen the grapes, whilst the drying Mistral wind eliminates the risk of rot. Grand Ardèche is treated as if it were grown in one of the prestigious vineyards of the Côte d’Or. Fully-ripened grapes are selected and pressed lightly before being aged in oak barrels made at the Latour cooperage in Beaune. This wine offers aromas of fresh almonds and vanilla with fresh green apple and citrus overtones. On the palate, the wine has lovely notes of brioche, almond, fresh apricot and vanilla. This wine has a golden hue and is full bodied, reminiscent of the great Burgundian villages of Meursault. Best served with fish or charcuterie meat, or as an aperitif.
